The iPad Catalog application: introduction

Usage of the iPad Catalog application is subject to a monthly fee per user. If your company is new to the application and would like to use it, please contact us for pricing and further information.

The MediaStore iPad Catalog application is an offline screening tool designed primarily for sales pitches, client meetings and markets, where instant screening is essential but a reliable internet connection may not be available. By synchronizing selected video screeners from the platform to your iPad, you will have all your content available for offline screening anywhere, all via a slick interface that your clients will also be able to work with effortlessly themselves. Optionally, you can connect to a second screen such as a high-definition TV in order to display video and images there. Here is an overview of the application’s features:

  • Offline catalog and screening functionality
  • Navigation via Genres, full-text search or Selections
  • Setting in-app content bookmarks
  • Creating Recommendation messages (will be sent once the iPad is connected to the internet)
  • Second-screen video and image sharing via HDMI adapter or Apple TV (plus display of a custom splash screen image on the second screen)
In the App Store, the application is called Our Catalog. Once installed, it will be titled Catalog on the iPad itself.

Requirements

  • The Catalog application requires an iPad (any variation including iPad Pro) running iOS 8 or above.
  • Your User account must be validated for iPad usage.
Please get in touch with your local product manager or us directly if you’d like to use the iPad Catalog application. It will not be possible unless your User account was specifically validated beforehand.

Installing the application

  • On your iPad, access the Catalog application by searching for “mediapeers” in the App Store and selecting Our Catalog.
    If you don’t get any search results in the App Store, please open this direct link: https://itunes.apple.com/app/our-catalog/id974044193
    Alternatively, use a search engine such as Google in your web browser and search for “mediapeers iTunes” or similar.
  • Follow the provided steps to install the application on your iPad.
Reinstalling or updating the Catalog application will remove previously synchronized assets from earlier versions.

Selecting content to synchronize to the application

Content can be synchronized to the Catalog application through Groups, specifically any Groups you set up in Groups > Mobile App Sync. In short, you can simply compile the Products you’d like to transfer to your iPad in one or several of these Groups. This step must take place before you run your first synchronization in the application itself and takes place on the regular MediaStore platform.

Before you carry out any of the steps described here, your User account must be validated for iPad sync (see above).

  • Create a Private Mobile App Sync Group: Go to Groups > Mobile App Sync section and click Add New to create a new Group, then set its access to Private.
  • Select the Products you’d like to synchronize: since assets are synced to the iPad application using Private Groups in the Groups > Mobile App Sync section, all you need to do is add the required Products to one of these Groups. This can be achieved in exactly the same way as with regular Groups, i.e. you can add Products to a Groups from the Products section as well as through the Add dialog in the Products tab of one of your Mobile App Sync Groups.
    Any Group(s) you’d like to sync must be in the Mobile App Sync Groups and set to Private. Other Groups can and will not be synced.
  • Select the video(s) to be synchronized: While you add Products to one of your Mobile App Sync Groups, you will be able to specifically select the video(s) you’d like to include. This will determine the videos to be synced to the iPad.
    Alternatively, add the Product(s) to a Mobile App Sync Group, then open that Group’s Products tab, tick the Product(s) for which you’d like to select videos, and then click Actions > Edit Video Sync at the top.
Take care not to select more data than your iPad will have available storage space for. If in doubt, please refer to the total Sync Size displayed in Groups > Mobile App Sync. The Catalog application’s Settings dialog shows the Storage available on device which you can check this against.

Afterwards, you must still run the synchronization process in the iPad app as described directly below.

Starting the synchronization process in the iPad applciation

After content has been enabled for synchronization using the steps outlined directly above, you must login to the iPad application and start the synchronization process. This process will only work if content has been enabled for synchronization first. Once this is the case, please use your iPad to follow these steps:

  • Open the Catalog application on the iPad.

    If you are using the application for the first time, or have not currently synced any items, you will be presented with a largely empty screen with the notification “No programs found.”
  • Tap the Settings button.

  • Set the Server value to the following: https://ios.api.mediapeers.biz/<your affiliation ID>
    Your affiliation ID is the company name MediaStore hosts your platform under. Examples: https://ios.api.mediapeers.biz/fremantle or https://ios.api.mediapeers.biz/nbcu
    If you are unsure of your platform’s affiliation ID, please ask your internal MediaStore project/product manager or contact us.
  • Enter your admin user credentials (the same that you’re using to access MediaStore) in the Account field and tap Login.

  • Tap Start Sync. Depending on your connection speed and the amount of data selected for synchronization, the process may take a while to finish.

  • Wait for the sync process to finish. The duration of the process depends on the amount of data to be synced, as well as the speed of your iPad internet connection.

  • Tap Done and exit the Settings dialog to move back to the main screen.

  • The iPad application will now be populated with the synchronized content.
    By default, you will be able to browse it via Genre/Category. Tap Categories in the top left corner to swap between either Genres/Categories or Selections (the Selections navigation will mirror your Groups). Furthermore, you can start a text search via the top-right search bar.
Within their Categories/Genres or Selections/Groups, content will always be sorted alphabetically by title. (If you need to bring a certain catalog entry to the front, you could consider adding an underscore “_” in front of its title by editing its metadata on the platform itself.)

You should only perform the sync operation if your iPad is connected to a wi-fi network, as the typically high data volumes may otherwise significantly drain your 3G/4G data allowance.

In the app’s Settings, please enable Set mirroring to toggle second-screen media display, in case you’ve connected a second screen via HDMI or Apple TV.

Fremantle: If you’re using Pitch Data metadata layers, please ensure that, in the app’s Settings, the Show pitch data setting is enabled. Pitch Data tabs will then appear and display Pitch Data for any Products carrying a Pitch Data layer.

Adding and modifying synchronized content

After a sync operation has been completed, you can still modify your Mobile App Sync Groups on the platform as usual. If you’d like these changes to be reflected in the iPad application, you can simply modify the synchronization settings:

  • If needed, add new assets (e.g. videos) to any Products that are currently synced to the Catalog application.
  • Go to Groups > Mobile App Sync and open a Mobile App Sync Group whose sync settings you’d like to update.
    • To change video(s) to be synced: On the Group’s Products tab, tick the Product(s) whose video sync settings you’d like to change, then choose Actions > Edit Video Sync. This will let you select the video(s) included in the sync. Once you’ve (un)ticked the videos to your liking, Save to apply the change.
      Alternatively, you may also open the Group’s Assets tab and use Actions > Remove to remove individual videos.

    • To add a Product to sync: Simply add it to one of your Private Mobile App Sync Groups in the same way as described above. Alternatively, create a new Private-access Mobile App Sync Group first and add the Product to it.
    • To remove a Product from sync: Simply remove it from its Group’s Products tab.
    • To remove entire Mobile App Sync Groups from sync: Delete the Group in the Mobile App Sync Groups list view.
  • Once you are happy with your changes, Start sync again within the Catalog application on the iPad.
Let’s say you have synced a trailer video from a Product to your iPad. Now, the full-length screener has become available from the producer and has already been uploaded to the platform. To add this new screener to the iPad application, tick the Product in its Mobile App Sync Group, the Edit Video Sync in order to tick the new screener, and afterwards then re-do the sync operation on the iPad.
